Bennett Mitchell’s music captures the rugged simplicity of western life, only to spiral it into psychedelic realms of soaring guitars and hypnotic rhythms. A voice croons from the golden haze of the Porcupine Hills into a velvet-draped dream. Like a jam session where The Talking Heads meet outlaw cowboys on acid, they conjure a sound that bridges the grit of the earth with the mysteries of existence. Bennett Mitchell is a songwriter and producer born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, exploring love, life, confusion and an endless catalogue of music drawing from folk roots that nod to a pastoral wistfulness of Country music's past and sets us dancing to the tender parts of life.
Sled Island called Mitchell, “Like Harry Nilsson or Cat Stevens before him, Bennett Mitchell is a folk singer-songwriter who can skitter around genres and ornate production styles without losing sight of his core — an original voice with a distinct point of view.”
