Bennett Mitchell is a man of many talents. I first came across his music during Sled Island in 2023 after a friend suggested I’d enjoy his sound (spoiler alert: they were right). His crooning voice, laced with folk-twang, evokes a sense of closeness and comfort, while his music bridges folk roots with psychedelic textures in a way that feels both timeless and exploratory.

With the release of his single who do i talk to?,” REVERIE chatted with Mitchell about his upcoming album, the stories woven into his songwriting, and how his evolving sound reflects both his personal growth and the landscapes that inspire him. (cont…)

“AGAINST THE COLD, BENNETT MITCHELL BRINGS THE WARMTH TO THE PALOMINO” -live review of December 12th performance with Local Singles, Andy and the Dannys & Eye of Newt

Bennett Mitchell warmed up the sub-zero night at the Palomino on Friday with Local Singles, Andy and the Danny's and Eye of Newt. It's nights like tonight the heartbeat of Calgary's music scene shows up. They show up in toques, insulated coats and boots.

The Mouse himself, showed up in plaid pajamas, flannel nightgown and John Deere cap. As the band tuned and line checked, the crowd chattered in anticipation. From his 2022 release, the title track "Mouse" opened the set, followed by a surprisingly Pop-esque, unreleased tune. Bellowing vocals, confessional lyrics and playful arrangements pulsed on, marching through a hay bail of songs old and new. Midway through the set, Mitchell announced the release date of his next single "Rearranging" with its timeless, four part harmonies. Keep an ear out for this one!

Performing one of his latest singles "I'm Not Suffering" with local gem Samantha Savage Smith, the room swayed in careless rhythm. Here, in this iconic basement, there was no unforgiving cold.

“ALBERTA ARTISTS SOUNDTRACK THE SUMMER AT EASTERN SLOPES MUSIC FESTIVAL” -live review by Reverie Magazine

Bennett Mitchell performed with his five-piece band — which includes Brock Geiger, who later took the stage for his own set — delivering a showcase of all that he can do. Finally seeing Bennett Mitchell perform in person felt like the stars had finally aligned, and it was worth the wait, especially hearing a personal favourite, “Hands (In My Pocket),” which he started to sing the outro of, and had to restart the song charmingly. The audience was also very fortunate to hear his newest single “who do i talk to?” that came out the day before the festival. Bennett Mitchell continued to set the bar high, leaving festival goers excited about the rest of the night.
