Bennett Mitchell just released his 4th album ‘rearranging’ on January 23rd, 2026
(Calgary, ALTA) ‘rearranging’ is my fourth album and certainly the most difficult album I’ve made yet. Written in the after-glow of Mouse, ‘rearranging’ tells the story of upheaval, uncertainty and change in life when you’re just trying to find a comfortable place to lay your head. This album took me the better part of four years and three studios to get right as my life was constantly rearranging itself. What started as a rough collection of songs in a shoe box apartment in Vancouver, slowly evolved through recording and rerecording in solitude at my families cattle ranch before finally coming to life while in the foyer of a family friends house where I recorded five of the nine songs live-off-the-floor. Recording at the ranch allowed me to work through a lot of the instrumentation and structure on my own but I was blessed to have the help of Calgary legends Cam Buie, Chris Dadge, Brock Geiger and Nate Waters on the final live recordings. Long-time friend and collaborator Eric Cinnamon engineered and co-produced these sessions with me. I also had the help of Graham Lessard, who mixed the album, and Philip Shaw Bova who provided the master. Though this album was a physical and emotional grind, I believe it is my most complete work to date.
“I found myself asking the universe or god or whoever deep questions about the meaning of my existence and the reality around me. I did most of this crashing out while mowing the insanely large lawn in the compound of our ranch. Nearly breaking down a few times a month.”
Sled Island called Mitchell, “Like Harry Nilsson or Cat Stevens before him, Bennett Mitchell is a folk singer-songwriter who can skitter around genres and ornate production styles without losing sight of his core — an original voice with a distinct point of view.”
The 9 track album ebbs and flows from his folk roots to big country refrains with rolling grooves and pop sensibilities.

About the Artist: Bennett Mitchell’s music captures the rugged simplicity of western life, only to spiral it into psychedelic realms of soaring guitars and hypnotic rhythms. A voice croons from the golden haze of the Porcupine Hills into a velvet-draped dream. Like a jam session where The Talking Heads meet outlaw cowboys on acid, they conjure a sound that bridges the grit of the earth with the mysteries of existence. Bennett Mitchell is a songwriter and producer born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, exploring love, life, confusion and an endless catalogue of music drawing from folk roots that nod to a pastoral wistfulness of Country music's past and sets us dancing to the tender parts of life.
